Lefèvre “Keep Fit!” Project
Year 9 and 10 from Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera spent a week in France from March 13th -17th. They were participating in a keep fit project partly funded by the Lefèvre trust.
The pupils met with their pen pals from Collège les Côtes in Péronnas, spent time at the school where they participated in a variety of fitness and healthy eating activities which included a Flash-mob dance, lessons on leading a healthy lifestyle and visiting the Olympic Museum in Lausanne.
Whilst participating in these activities, they got to know their French pen pals and improved their French.
In April, the French pupils of Péronnas came to Ystalyfera for the second part of the exchange.
At school, they took part in fitness lesson, learnt some Welsh and improved their English.
The Welsh and French pupils then spent a day in Absolute Adventure in Abercrave where they participated in physical, mental and problem solving activities which improved their intercommunication and team-building skills.
They also had the opportunity to visit the Principality Stadium to get to know the Welsh rugby traditions, Saint Fagan Museum of Welsh life and Big Pit, where they learnt about Welsh culture.
The pupils have shared valuable experiences during this Keep Fit project, getting to know each other, improving their knowledge of each others’ language and participating in such a wide variety of activities.
