Successful Futures Update

As the creation of the new curriculum continues, here are some details upon progress and the areas that you could be researching.

Areas of Learning and Experience – the next steps
The new curriculum will be organised into six Areas of Learning and Experience to ensure a broad educational experience for all children and young people. To enable this, Areas of Learning and Experience groups have been set up containing curriculum and subject experts from the Curriculum Pioneers and will be facilitated by Welsh Government, Regional Consortia and school leads. These groups will use expert support and build upon the Strand 1 experience of the pioneer schools over the previous twelve months to create the six Areas of Learning and Experience.
The groups will meet on a monthly basis and use Hwb to share information between each other. It is the intention of Welsh Government to hold a National event in June to bring the groups together to share overall progress.

Pioneer Professional Learning Schools (Former New Deal schools)
The New Deal schools are now called Pioneer Professional Learning Schools, their Pioneer School status and their development of professional learning has not changed and they have recently met to look at the implementation of the Digital Competence Framework. ERW’s Professional Learning Schools programme is separate to this and involves amongst other things, schools acting as hosts for ERW and UWTSD professional learning courses.

Digital Competence Framework
The Digital Competence Framework has been produced and is being implemented in schools. There have been a number of events held by the ERW Digital Team to support this throughout the region since September.  If you need support with development, please contact Greg Morgan.

OECD Research
The OECD Pilot Schools have met recently and begun work upon the pilot survey for the OECD research project that will support Successful Futures. There will be further work upon this over the next few months.

The New Professional Teaching Standards
The Professional Standards Pilot Schools have met recently and are working on the piloting of the New Professional Teaching Standards.
