Number of pupils: 902
A Pembrokeshire secondary school school has purchased a range of musical equipment and instruments to engage a range of eFSM and disengaged pupils.
White Rabbit Records has been set up and has already delivered two day-long workshops to work with the targeted group to produce a performance for an audience each day.
Twelve drama workshops have also been held to encourage pupils to engage in the arts at after school clubs in the Torch Theatre.
Headteacher Rod Francis said: “Both activities have proved very successful with first class engagement of the targeted group for the samba band performance.
“Twenty pupils were targeted and all persevered throughout the day and all played a part in the performance.
“The after school drama workshops are extremely popular and have retained a vibrant group of pupils. This will now become an on-going activity.
“The workshops are continuing because the children and tutors have enjoyed themselves so much.”
Further music workshops will target more children with the day split into two distinct sessions to accommodate more children.
Targeted pupils who have taken part will lead their own workshops for KS2 pupils.
This will become a focus for the Music curriculum at KS2 to KS3 transition.
“The demand for the drama workshop is very strong and the school will be actively seeking sponsors to continue this in the future,” added Mr Francis.
“The expectation being that the children taking part are confident to lead a whole school musical production.”
